The Laga1577 Traditional Stone House, owned by the Tzanoudakis family, is considered one of the most authentic and traditional tourist accommodations in Crete.
The property consists of two impressive stone-built buildings that communicate internally and are set within a lush 600 sq.m. estate, at the top of the village, at an altitude of 281 meters, offering a unique sense of tranquility and privacy.
Laga Mylopotamou is a historic settlement of Rethymno, known since the 16th century, as it is mentioned in Venetian censuses as Langa (1577, 1583). The area boasts a rich historical heritage, including an ancient Greek bridge approximately 2,300 years old.
Just 4 kilometers away lies the Museum of the Archaeological Site of Ancient Eleutherna, considered of comparable importance to the museums of Olympia, Delphi, and Vergina.
The mansion is approximately a 20-minute drive from the picturesque fishing village of Panormo, known for its beautiful beaches, traditional fish taverns, and luxury hotels. Only 10 minutes away are Margarites, a village with distinctive color and character, renowned as the largest pottery center in Western Crete. At the site of Vigla, a Late Minoan vaulted tomb (14th century BC) has been excavated. The historic city of Rethymno is about 25 minutes away.
Our traditional stone-built accommodation, with its impressive wooden ceiling, harmoniously combines tradition with all modern comforts. The interior is decorated with authentic traditional furniture, creating a warm, romantic, and welcoming atmosphere. The village is surrounded by rich vegetation, including lemon, mandarin, and orange trees, olive groves, and a variety of flowers.
Upon arrival, guests have access to comfortable and secure parking. Through a small pathway, they are led to the mansion, where spacious and bright interior areas welcome them.
The outdoor area features a private swimming pool with umbrellas and sunbeds, surrounded by lawn and rose bushes, offering ideal conditions for swimming, sunbathing, and complete relaxation.
Laga is today one of the 17 officially designated settlements of high cultural value (Category 1) in the Rethymno prefecture, recognized as an independent settlement with strong Venetian influences. The village is divided into three sectors. Sector A, where our mansion is located, includes the original traditional settlement.
A centuries-old olive tree dominates the estate and serves as a point of admiration. The privacy of the property, combined with the enchanting view of the verdant plain and the mountain ranges of Kouloukonas and the imposing Psiloritis, constitutes one of the main advantages of Laga1577. Psiloritis, at 2,456 meters, is an internationally recognized natural park and is part of the UNESCO European and Global Geoparks Network.
Laga is an ideal destination for nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts, as the wider area offers numerous trails, gorges, and a river that flows nearby.
